Biomedical Waste Management in India-A Review

چکیده

Biomedical waste is any kind of either solid or liquid containing infectious, potentially infectiousmaterials medical, laboratory research origin from activities such as diagnosis, prevention & treatmentof diseases. Bio-medical has a higher potential infection and injury to the healthcare worker, patientand surrounding community. It consists human anatomical waste, animal microbiology &biotechnology sharps, discarded medicines cytotoxic drugs, soiled waste,incineration ash chemical wastes. Common generators biomedical include hospitals, clinics,medical veterinary colleges, blood banks, mortuaries, autopsy centers, biotechnology institutions, researchlaboratories, home health care funeral homes. Hazardous chemicals radioactive though noninfectious require proper disposal. World Health Organization states that 10% hospital are infectious& 5% non-infectious but hazardous waste. Organisation classified medical into8 categories which general, pathological, radioactive, chemical, pharmaceuticals& pressurized In India, (Management Handling) Rules 1998 along with furtheramendments regulate management. 6 schedules includes Categoryof Colour coding type container, Label for containers bagswhich should be non-washable prominently visible, transport orbags, Standard treatment disposal, Schedule facilities like Incinerator, Autoclave,Microwave System. Operating Standards combustion efficiency Emission defined.The present review article focused on basic issues definition, categories, problems relating biomedicalwaste procedure handling disposal method Waste Management.
